Charles Barkley/Inside Guys promoting hockey better than the NHL, as usual 🧡
It's simply disgusting that Bettman doesn't promote the NHL in the states at all. I know he has a radio show where people can ask questions. Does anyone bring this up to him ever?
@Mr. Brenman21 NHL lost the younger fan base when they left ESPN IMO years ago then seemed to not promote.
Rarely seen interview when he gets asked hard questions.
@Tommy Tanks I'm not a fan of ESPN but they do promote way better then NBC. I remember when the league essentially relaunched in 05-06 there were tons of NHL commercials. Now there is essentially none. You have to promote the stars.

Good on them promoting NHL. It’s literally a true sport in which it requires skills at everything to be a top talent
TBS/TNT taking over the broadcasting rights from NBC was the best thing possible for the NHL down in the states.
The fact that you felt the need to call hockey a "true sport" is exactly why it isn't as popular as other sports.....

Hockey isnt as popular as something like soccer becuase its harder to get into. Way more equipment and access needed than other sports.
Im loving these NBA/NHL crossovers. I loved the fact that Chuck was shouting out the NHL and Edmonton. This is awesome.
Although we know that TNT has Hockey, I'm very pleased that this is happening. The Tkachuk family is very impressive.

Panthers have been playing what I call free hockey, their playing unafraid of making mistakes, the goalies confidence spreads like a virus, infecting the players, letting them play without worrying about giving up plays, because they feel the goalie will handle whatever comes his way and he has, their having fun. The Panthers are like the perfect storm of hockey right now.

It is very hard for me to picture Dallas or Vegas beating them. Not to say it can’t happen.
Coming from a Rangers fan but more importantly a fan of hockey itself, this is great to see. Tkachuk is a phenomenal player in every aspect of the game, glad to see him get the recognition he deserves. Props to TNT for having a great broadcast all season long and doing a great job of marketing star players as seen here. These guys are so incredibly talented and deserve more credit.
I remember when Patrick Kane was the face of the league back when the Hawks were winning cups, now I feel like the media has found their new favorite Matthew Tkachuk. He’s him. He deserves to be advertised like this. Might become the future face of the league if he keeps this up.
Matthew is also more naturally charasmatic than Patrick Kane ever was (his cues on when to jump in in this interview and hilarious quips were perfectly timed). If only the Panthers actually played in Miami instead of 45 minutes up the road in Fort Lauderdale I think it would make things that much better lol
Curious as to why there is a need for a "face" for hockey. Sport stands on its own "face". Player come and go. The game stays the same.
@Thomas Comeau It's the entertainment business. A lot of the NBA's popularity comes from the off court drama (like which NBA player is dating which Kardashian, etc.). You need to sell your product in order to engage new and casual fans and the personalities and storylines of the teams and athletes are a big selling point at drawing people in and enticing people to watch the game.
USA hockey is in tremendous hands with the Tkachuks/Hughes bros/Matthews/Robertson/ & Tage Thompson

As an Oilers fan, I don't need to write why I did not like him on his previous team. Now that he is on a different team, it is easier to cheer for Matthew. The league needs players like him to help grow the game. Not only is he elite, Matthew is not shy to share his personality.

@Leonza Duncan He was/is an absolute Cancer, this recent playoff streak aside...Consider what he screamed at Nosek during a game. The OIilers absolutely erased him in the playoffs last year. He got dominated so badly he begged for a trade and jumped on the first train out of Cowtown.......thanks, but no thanks. Glad they did NOT take him.

When Tkachuk went from the Flames to the Panthers I thought he was going to fade into obscurity because the Panthers are generally a team that few people pay attention to...but I couldn't have been more wrong. Heading to South Florida has turned out to be the best thing that's ever happened to him.
This was really, really good! It's great to see NHL players get a chance to show off their personalities a little bit, and kudos to the NBA TNT crew for welcoming Matthew in. Great segment.

His heroics haven’t been a surprise considering he scored the Memorial Cup winning goal for the London Knights!

they NEED to get Barkley to join the TNT hockey crew on his off nights. He probably has good insights. Basketball is 5 on 5 game played for about the same length, they both play 82 games at the same time of year and need 16 wins in the playoffs over 4 rounds to win it all and a lot of times play in the same arenas. Def the most similarities of all the 5 major team sports.

@A A true too. Both games require playing like a team ( for the most part) to put an object in a goal with netting. Something a basketball player can relate to in talking hockey.
I don't really follow the NBA(die hard NHL fan) but I will give them credit as they have a lot of good personalities. That is something NHL still lacks both with what is on the ice with the players/coaches and with TV/Studio crews.

Having played organized football, basketball, and baseball in highs school and then learning to play hockey and joining a rec league as an adult, hockey by far is my favorite sport to play. Too bad the barrier to entry is so high, otherwise I think it would be more popular.

This is why it's so good for the NHL & NBA to be on the same networks, cross-promotion. 🙂 Matthew Tkachuk has been THE story of these playoffs, helping guide the Panthers to their deepest playoff run in nearly 3 decades. And he's the type of player both on & off the ice who helps give the league even more 'eyeballs' for sure.
Inside Crew doing better work promoting the NHL than just about anyone, including the NHL for that matter. Lol. This is why I love this show more than any other sports show. The NHL is such a great sport. I will say, we need more characters in the sport. Mathew Tkachuk is one of the only characters we have, and his brother is pretty great too. Everyone is so bland.
A few years ago Kyle Lowry gave an interview imitating a hockey player and he hit all the cliches on the head. Bland is a perfect adjective as much as some fans might hate to hear that. I think the NHL's media training has a lot to do with interviews sounding robotic.

I don't watch hockey so I thought Shaq had a very clever idea. Shaq continued to be hilarious when he said he loved the fighting in hockey and wanted Matt to shout him out in his next fight. 😂😂😂
About time they gave some love for hockey thanks to Chuck. As a flames fan and calgarian we are happy to see Matthew going to the finals and show the flames jersey. We miss chucky but glad he’s doing well so fast.
I see plenty of similarities between basketball and hockey: speed, skills, fast breaks, quick passing, even handoffs but by stick. Great sport, great interview, nice guy. And our quartet is impeccable as usual.

It's great and refreshing to see the NHL getting some spotlight like the other 3 sports do. And the NBA couldn't have chosen a better player, Matthew Tkachuk is the prototypical hockey player. He brings so much energy to the game.
Thank you to TNT for respecting the sport of hockey. Some of the greatest athletes in the world that can stand shoulder to shoulder with NBA, NFL and MLB. It’s been an outstanding season.

Tkachuk is doing a lot to promote the game and get people interested in hockey. Helps that he has a real personality, unlike a guy like McDavid or even Crosby

As a Bruins fan, I can’t hate the player. I really want to but I can’t. During the series I couldn’t stand the man but I absolutely respect his game. He’s an incredibly fun guy to watch play hockey and he’s truthfully doing great things for the game.

For me the problem with Hockey is that it just doesn’t translate as well on TV compared to live unlike basketball. Whenever I visit my relatives in California I make sure to watch atleast 1 Kings and 1 sharks game and I also watch atleast a couple of LA and warriors game and man Hockey live is amazing.
Good for Matthew being on Inside nba. He showed up when when it matters. Unlike the rigged NBA with all the narratives. Bring the Cup to the panthers as the heat don’t know how close out. Heat need a rebuild where as panthers are building.
Not surprised at all Barkley and TNT treat hockey with more respect then anybody not paid by ESPN specifically to cover hockey, and even then...

Tkachuk has swag man. Him being in Miami vs Calgary will help grow the game. Bettman talks about growing the game but it takes more than throwing a team in Los Angeles, Miami, Phoenix, Vegas, or Dallas. They have to be good, and having marketable stars helps. Everybody in Canada knows all these guys, but the problem is Canadians aren't gonna tune into a Panthers vs Knights series. Get some guys like Gretzky or Lindros. It didn't matter that they weren't Americans. They were stars.
Shotout Keith Tkachuk, both of his kids are superstars in the nhl. Also him calling out the panthers really lit a fire under them. He told them they wkd have to train w him all summer if they didn't win the cup lol

No they hate him because he forced a trade out of Calgary even after they offered him a bigger contract than what he signed for in Florida😂.
@Sam195 he didn't force any trade. He wanted to stay long term in Calgary but they signed him to a bridge deal as an RFA, he went beast mode during those 3 seasons and they knew they weren't going to be able to keep him so they traded him.

@Taylor Dawson they offered him the same deal they signed Huberdeau to who they got back in the trade. Literally a $1M more in AAV which makes up more than the difference in tax savings between Florida and Calgary. He literally asked for a trade once Gaudreau bailed in free agency and signed in Columbus.
